KENORA, Ont. — A driver in a violent crash in northern Ontario faces distracted driving charges after a video from a dashboard camera that captured the crash shows him apparently talking on a cellphone.

Police revisited the case after the video went viral last week.

The video was shot by the driver of the other vehicle, Ralph Ireland of Sioux Lookout, Ont.

He was returning home with his wife from Winnipeg, when, as the video shows, Christopher Lord's pickup pulled onto Hwy. 17 and into Ireland's path near Kenora, Ont.

Ireland was not able to stop in time and collided into the bed of Lord's truck at high speed, narrowly missing the driver-side door.

Both drivers were treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Lord, of Manitoba, was initially charged with failing to yield to traffic. He has since been charged with using a cellphone while driving.
