MONTREAL - A parking-lot dog sale turned sour in suburban Montreal when the buyer pulled out a pellet gun and pilfered the pooch.

The theft happened in Repentigny, Que., just east of the city, on Wednesday evening.

Two men met at 8:30 p.m. in a shopping centre parking lot to make the exchange when they got into an argument, say police.

"The man pulled out a gun, which turned out to be a pellet gun, before breaking the dog owner's vehicle window and running away with the animal," Sgt. Bruno Marier told QMI Agency.

Police began a "high risk" operation to look for the man and two alleged accomplices who were in a tow truck.

Officers quickly arrested a suspect not far from the scene and the tow truck was stopped on a nearby highway.

Marier says the two men in the tow truck were released but the main suspect was being questioned.
