EDMONTON -- The family of a city woman strangled by her boyfriend urged her killer to seek out Jesus and said that they forgive him before the killer was handed a life sentence.

Edward James Fountain, 44, was given the life term with no eligibility of parole for at least 10 years after pleading guilty to second-degree murder on Wednesday.

Justice Sheila Greckol called the Oct. 4, 2012, slaying of Charissa Kozakewich, 39, a "tragic act" and a "senseless crime," and praised the victim's family for their "courageous" gesture of forgiveness.
