OTTAWA — A crack-smoking “stabaholic” prostitute was sentenced Friday to 12 years in prison for fatally stabbing a chef with his own knife on New Year’s Day 2011.

In his sentencing submission, Crown attorney Paul Attia pointed out Jennifer Bird, 30, had previously knifed three other people — hence his use of the term stabaholic to describe her.

On Tuesday, she pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the stabbing death of Simon Hubbard, 43.

Hubbard spent New Year’s Eve at the Heart and Crown pub. At some point in the night, he met Bird and she came back with him to his apartment.

Sometime after 4 a.m., an upstairs neighbour reported hearing a commotion and Hubbard yelling the word “Out!” repeatedly.

Hubbard had wounds to his face, head, thigh, chest and arm.

His hands showed defensive wounds.

He managed to stumble out of his department, but was found dead in an alley nearby.

Bird claims she can’t remember what happened because she was on Day 4 of a sleepless crack binge.
