OTTAWA — A routine pickup at a Gatineau, Que. elementary school could have turned tragic if not for the swift intervention of witnesses and school staff.
According to Gatineau police, a school van driver showed up at St-Paul Elementary School to pick up a group of children around 3:19 p.m. Monday, when witnesses noticed the man appeared to be drunk.
The kids were immediately pulled from the vehicle and bystanders held the driver until police could arrive.
Police spokeswoman Mariane Leduc did not know if the man worked for a transportation service or a private company, and his name will not be released until he appears in court Tuesday morning.
