EDMONTON — An Edmonton father who had explicit online sex chats with U.S. undercover cops posing as underage girls and exposed himself using a webcam was jailed Wednesday.

Dennis Murphy Jr., 37, was sentenced to one year behind bars, to be followed by three years of probation, after earlier pleading guilty to three counts of Internet luring.

"This is repugnant behaviour and completely unacceptable in our society," said Justice Paul Belzil, who described Murphy's actions as "grooming and luring in the true sense of the words."

Murphy, a married father of three who court heard tried to get the supposed underage girls to have sex with him, was also placed on the national sex offender registry for life and banned from going to parks, swimming pools, schools and any other place where minors congregate.
