CALGARY -- Before allegedly stabbing five young people, Matthew de Grood spent time mingling with partygoers, police say.
But what sparked the horrific slayings of Joshua Hunter, 23, Kaitlin Perras, 23, Jordan Segura, 22, Lawrence Hong, 27, and Zackariah Rathwell, 21, early Tuesday in Calgary's worst mass murder is still a mystery.
The five were among a group celebrating the end of the school year at the University of Calgary, where three of them attended, at a low-key house party on Butler Cres. N.W.

Two victims lived in the home, said police spokesman Kevin Brookwell.
He said the suspect was an invited guest to the party and knew at least one person there, someone he has known for a long time but who was not one of the victims.
