Police have arrested a man who allegedly told Rehtaeh Parsons' father in an anonymous YouTube comment that he'll be "going to visit" his dead daughter if he keeps being "lippy.”
Nova Scotia RCMP said search warrants were executed to obtain IP addresses, and a computer and electronic storage devices were seized from a home in Eastern Passage, a Halifax suburb.
A 19-year-old man was arrested Thursday night and faces charges of uttering death threats and criminal harassment. He will appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court on May 20.
Parsons, 17, was taken off life-support last April following a suicide attempt. Her parents alleged she'd been sexually assaulted and that a photo of the attack was circulated to schoolmates electronically.
Last August, Parson's father. Glen Canning told QMI Agency he believed the threats were "made by a local person who has knowledge of our case.”
“I am concerned, but not scared,” he said.
The threat, made on Canning's YouTube channel, came from a user called "iamkarma902." He had commented numerous times on Canning's feed, making disparaging remarks about Rehtaeh Parsons and denying her rape allegations.
Police arrested and charged two 18-year-old men in the case last August. One is charged with making and distributing child porn and the other is charged with two counts of distributing child porn.
