CALGARY --  Now legally blind, the perpetrator of the horrific rape of a Calgary woman nearly a quarter century ago will be heading off to prison next week.

Gerald Raymond Clark, 56, pleaded guilty Monday to three charges, including sexual assault, in connection with a brutal attack in July, 1990.

Crown prosecutor Jayme Williams, in detailing Clark’s crimes, said his victim, now 45, was bound and blindfolded with duct tape and raped in the basement of her southwest home.

And the woman, who sat quietly in a back row of the courtroom as Williams went over the facts, had to repeatedly beg not to be seriously harmed, or killed, by Clark, the prosecutor said.

Clark, who remains on bail pending his sentencing next Monday, said outside court he is sorry for what he did so long ago.
