A Brockton, Ont., man was busted with a cache of weapons in a motel room the same day he was released from jail after serving time for similar offences.

Hanover police went to a local hotel in the southern Ontario town Monday night to check out a man they thought was living there.

The officer knocked on the door of a unit and was met by an intoxicated man who said the person police were looking for no longer lived there.

While the police officer spoke to the man several firearms and other weapons were seen on the bed inside the motel unit.

As the lone cop tried to arrest the suspect, a struggle broke out and additional officers were called to assist with the arrest.

The suspect was eventually subdued, but not before the investigating officer was injured. The officer was treated and released from Hanover and District Hospital.

Police seized a loaded sawed-off shotgun, a loaded .32-calibre revolver, several rounds of ammunition, numerous prohibited knives, brass knuckles, an extendable baton, a recording device, lock picks and other break-and-enter tools, and handcuffs and a key.

Jack Walton, 33, formerly of Toronto, faces 19 charges including three counts of possession of a prohibited firearm, two counts of possession of a firearm with altered serial numbers, three counts of possession of a firearm while prohibited, six counts of possession of a prohibited weapon, possession of ammunition while prohibited, two counts of possession of break-in instruments, resisting arrest and breach of probation.

Walton had just been released from custody that day after serving time for "weapons convictions and crimes of violence," Hanover police said.

Walton is scheduled to make a video appearance in court Friday.
