A 25-year-old man who’s fighting for his life in hospital now faces drunk driving charges for allegedly causing a multi-vehicle crash on the QEW in Mississauga that left one dead and five others hurt early Sunday.

OPP said the accused man was driving a white van that plowed into the back of a stopped Ministry of Transportation “crash-blocker truck” in the eastbound lanes of the busy highway, east of Cawthra Rd., setting off the chain reaction collision around 7:20 a.m.

“It was pretty horrific,” OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said Tuesday.

He said a “disabled” Nissan Murano was stopped in the right lane and the MTO truck was positioned behind it to warn other motorists of the hazard.
