OTTAWA ─ A 19-year-old Ottawa man nabbed driving at more than 100 km/h on a downtown street will have a costly reminder of testing out his new wheels.

The the teen faces up to $15,000 in fines after police nabbed him shortly after 10 p.m. Tuesday, at more than double the speed limit.

Police said the man was flying down Somerset St. at speeds of more than 100 km/h, with traffic in the area and pedestrians milling about.

Ottawa police Const. Nermin Mesic was in the area when he heard a loud revving engine.
