A 36-year-old Oshawa man who vanished without a trace nine years ago has been found dead in cottage country.
And Durham Regional Police said Friday that Gary Newman was murdered.
The missing man’s remains were discovered a week ago, May 1, just outside of Kirkfield in the City of Kawartha Lakes — about 90 km north of Oshawa.
And police say the Centre for Forensic Sciences confirmed the victim was Newman on Tuesday after conducting a post-mortem examination, police said.
“The autopsy also concluded that he was a victim of homicide and that the remains had been at that location for many years,” police said.
Newman is Durham Region’s third murder victim of 2014, but he hadn’t been seen or heard from since 2005.
His mother, Vera Bahadosingh, last saw her son in Oshawa on April 15 of that year.
However, it was a disturbing phone conversation she and her daughter-in-law had with him on 11 days later that told her her son was in trouble.
