CALGARY — Killing his 10-week-old son in an act he originally blamed on the dog has landed a Calgary man a four-year prison term.
Justice Karen Horner on Friday accepted a joint Crown and defence recommendation for that sentence for Jamie Allen Dorey, on a charge of manslaughter.
But before Horner handed Dorey his sentence, the confessed killer addressed court.
"I accept today and I'm here willing to accept this," Dorey told the judge.
"I love my son. I don't know what happened that day and I will live with it the rest of my life," he said.
"Do you accept your responsibility?" Horner asked Dorey, who said he has no recollection of how or why he killed his son and has at times has waffled on his guilt.
"I do," Dorey replied.
