MONTREAL -- An 83-year-old Quebec man is facing 10 years in jail after being found guilty of possession, production and importation of child pornography.
Court heard that Joseph C. P. Cote would travel to the Dominican Republic where he'd sexually abuse minors, some younger than 13.
The crown says he met his first victim in 2003, and abused her for three years. His second victim was eight when he first met her, and prosecutors say he was so fond of her that he tried to arrange for her to immigrate to Canada.
Police found 1,377 videos and 3,959 photos on Cote's computer that are classified as child pornography, and another 295 videos and 8,971 photos that police defined as juvenile nudity.
"The videos and photos are very difficult to look at," said Crown prosecutor Rachelle Pitre.
Cote told police that he has a preference "for 13-year-old girls," and that he has been travelling to for the purposes of sexual tourism since 1987
