PEMBROKE, Ont -- A Petawawa soldier now faces more than 30 charges involving 16 alleged female victims, some of whom have complained of being drugged and raped.

New charges were laid Thursday when Cpl. Derrick Gallagher, 31, an infantryman from the 1st Battalion, Royal Canadian Regiment based out of Garrison Petawawa, made a brief video appearance from the Ottawa-Carleton Detention Centre, where he has been held since his arrest in March.

The latest charges are for sexual assault, breaking and entering a dwelling with intent to commit an indictable offence, and five counts of voyeurism involving seven more alleged victims.

Gallagher, who joined the Armed Forces in 2005, now faces more than 30 charges in the investigation, which goes back at least seven years.

Police initially said the alleged sexual assaults occurred in Petawawa, Ont., and Pembroke between January 2007 and March 14 of this year.
