MONTREAL - The escort who brought down the interim mayor of a scandal-plagued Montreal suburb last year has pleaded guilty to extorting him.

Julie Cadieux has admitted to three charges related to her alleged tryst with Alexandre Duplessis.

He resigned last June after a woman claimed she wasn't paid for participating in a cross-dressing encounter.

Cadieux pleaded guilty last week to extortion, attempted break and enter and drug possession with intent to traffic.

A court heard that Cadieux spent time with Duplessis last June and attempted to break into his cottage, triggering the alarm system.

She also extorted money from him, the court heard, and was in possession of methamphetamine when she was arrested.

QMI later learned that police were investigating a case in which a male client dressed up in women's clothing while using an escort.

Duplessis has always denied receiving any sexual services, but he quit shortly after the scandal broke.
