Suliman M.'s arrest is just the latest in a string of Canadian youths becoming embroiled in overseas terrorism in recent years.

Two Muslim high school students from London, Ont. -- Ali Medlej and Xristos Katsiroubas -- were killed by security forces in January 2013 as they took part in a bloody terrorist takeover of an Algerian natural gas plant.

Authorities said 37 hostages and 29 terrorists were killed.

A third high school friend of the London youths, Aaron Yoon, was jailed in Mauritania for alleged ties to al-Qaida. He was released in July 2013 and secretly returned to Canada. Yoon travelled overseas with his buddies but did not go to Algeria.

In December 2013, a British Columbia judge banned a 17-year-old Kamloops, B.C., boy with several criminal convictions from using the Internet or reading anything about terrorism after RCMP officers who raided his home.
