The alleged ringleader of an Ottawa terror cell was preparing to leave the country when police decided to make arrests, a court heart Friday.

Mark Ertel -- defence lawyer for the ringleader's alleged right-hand man, Misbahuddin Ahmed, who is on trial facing three terror-related counts -- suggested the Crown had skirted over evidence favourable to the defence as he cross-examined an RCMP investigator.

This prompted an objection from Crown prosecutor Jason Wakely, and the jury was sent away so the lawyers could argue.
