QUEBEC CITY — A judge sentenced a woman to life in prison for stabbing a neighbour to death and showing his body to a friend on Skype.

Sonia Couture pleaded guilty to second-degree murder for killing Gary Wilkins in Quebec City on May 2.

Judge Serge Francoeur said Couture won't be eligible for parole for 12 years.

The court heard that Wilkins visited Couture, who lived in his building, and she beat him unconscious with a frying pan.

Already on probation and fearing he would report her to police, Couture stabbed him 17 times with two different knives.

She then contacted an acquaintance on Skype and confessed, the court heard.

"She even showed him the person's body with her camera," said prosecutor Jean-Roch Parent.

The acquaintance called police, who found a bloodied body on Couture's floor.

Two knives were in a running dishwasher and Couture had a bandage on her hand.
