VANCOUVER — Three people have been shot and Vancouver police have reportedly taken a man into custody at the entrance to a museum full of parents and children in the city's downtown.

Police said a woman, a police officer and a suspect were all injured by gunfire that started at a coffee shop.

According to police, the woman was the first one shot at about 11 a.m. and the suspected shooter was pursued by police to the entrance of Science World.

There, police said, he exchanged gunfire with police and hit one of the officers.

Visitors to Science World have been asked to stay inside the museum as police investigate.

One woman told media by phone they were told to "hit the deck" before the shooting began.

The shot woman has been taken to hospital in serious condition.

There has been no update on the condition of the suspect or officer.

Vancouver police said they will release more information as it become available.
