WINNIPEG - A respected massage therapist responsible for a drunk-driving collision that sent another man to hospital with life-changing injuries has been sentenced to 18 months jail.
James Adams, 46, previously pleaded guilty to one count of impaired driving causing bodily harm.
Adams had spent several hours drinking at a friend's Transcona home April 3, 2010 and was driving his truck eastbound on Highway 15 when he crossed into the oncoming lane of traffic and collided with a Honda Prelude.
Police later seized a blood sample from Adams, from which his blood alcohol level was estimated to be as high as .284 at the time of the collision, more than three times the legal limit for driving.
The driver of the other vehicle, now 28, suffered a fractured neck and kneecap, spent three months in a wheelchair and has been unable to return to his job as a dry-waller.
