SARNIA, Ont. — A Sarnia woman's refusal to deal with her theft of $2.47 worth of candy got her jailed for seven days.

Samantha Anne Munro, 22, pleaded guilty in Sarnia court to the June 22, 2013, theft and two subsequent failures to attend court.

On June 22, Munro was seen hiding bags of candy in her purse. Munro paid for some other items but not the candy.

On Dec. 17, 2013, and again on Feb. 4, 2014, Munro failed to attend court as required to deal with the theft charge.

Munro's chance for diversion of the theft charge from the court system was lost when she failed to show up twice, said defence lawyer Terry Brandon.

It is difficult to understand why she got herself into this trouble for $2.47 worth of candy, said Justice Deborah Austin.
