MONTREAL — A man and his wife survived a terrifying home invasion in which three suspects tortured the man with a saw while looking for cash.
It happened just after 11 p.m. Monday in Mascouche, Que., a bedroom community northeast of Montreal.
Police say the three men knocked on the door and when the victims opened it, the suspects barged in.
The woman fled to the bathroom and tried to call 911 on her cellphone, but the invaders ripped away her phone and locked her inside the room.
The crooks then held the man down and sliced his hand with a kitchen knife.
Next they grabbed a metal-cutting power saw.
Police say the suspects knew there was a large amount of cash in the house, and they threatened to kill the man if he didn't tell them where it was.
When he hesitated, they started up the power tool and cut into the victim's arm until he finally told them the cash was in a freezer.
"The suspects bluntly told the man, 'you have friends who have big mouths,'" said police spokeswoman Celine St-Andre. "They knew exactly what they were looking for."
The crooks fled and the man ran to a neighbour's house, blood pouring from his arm, the neighbour told QMI Agency.
"He was talking but his arm was bleeding badly," said the witness. "There was a lot of blood everywhere."
The woman was not injured but suffered from shock.
Police are looking for three men who stole $23,000, jewelry and the man's passport.
