A Pennsylvania couple has sued the city of Pittsburgh, claiming that police used a Taser on one of them while they tried to mourn their slain son at a hospital two years ago.

Earl Baldwin Jr. and Troi Baldwin said in the suit filed late on Tuesday that they had gone to UPMC Mercy hospital in June 2012 after being told that their son, Mileek Grissom, 23, had been shot.

When they were told that he had died, Earl Baldwin laid his head next to Grissom to talk to him. Hospital security personnel and Pittsburgh police then tried to pull Baldwin from the room, the suit filed in U.S. District Court said.

When Baldwin clung to the bed, an unnamed police officer used his Taser on him and Baldwin was handcuffed and ejected from the hospital, according to the complaint.

Unnamed officers or security guards kept Troi Baldwin from getting near her son's body, the suit said.

The complaint alleges the city violated the couple's constitutional rights. UPMC Mercy, the police officer and other personnel are also being sued, and the Baldwins are seeking compensation from the hospital and the city.

A spokeswoman for the solicitor's office in Pittsburgh had no immediate comment on the suit.
