Kate McCann, the mother of missing Madeleine McCann, says her son has asked her if she and her husband hid their little girl's body.

McCann was testifying in a defamation suit launched against former Portuguese police chief Goncalo Amaral, who wrote a book called The Truth of the Lie, in which he claims the couple was involved in Madeleine's disappearance at a Portugal resort in 2007.

McCanns were initially considered persons of interest in the case, but were cleared after Amaral was fired.

"Sean asked me in October, 'Mr. Amaral said you hid Madeleine.' I just said that he said a lot of silly things," McCann told the court Tuesday, the Telegraph reported.

Sean and his twin sister, Amelie, were sleeping at the Praia da Luz resort when two-year-old Madeleine went missing. Their parents were dining with friends a short distance away.

British police reopened the case into Madeleine's disappearance last year.
