OTTAWA ─ The arrest of a teen homicide suspect on the lam for more than a month in the prom night slaying of Brandon Volpi is another step toward justice, said the victim's family.

Devontay Hackett, 18, wanted for second-degree murder in the June 7 stabbing of Volpi, was nabbed by Toronto police on Friday afternoon.

"It's such a relief off my shoulders. It's been so frustrating for the family. My mom's been praying a lot for justice," said Brandon’s father Danny Volpi.

Volpi was a popular Grade 12 student and rugby player at St. Patrick's High School, where he was remembered in a graduation ceremony late last month.

Volpi was stabbed to death outside Les Suites hotel in downtown Ottawa, when he and dozens of other students from several schools were out celebrating prom.

Remembered as "a protector to everyone," his family believes he died helping someone.

Three days after Volpi’s death, a Canada-wide arrest warrant was issued for Hackett.
