TORONTO -- A Toronto man has been charged with leaving his daughter locked in a hot van on Sunday while he shopped in a mall in Vaughan.

It was just after 2 p.m. that police responded to a citizen's call about a child locked in a "hot car" in the parking lot of Vaughan Mills Mall. Officers arrived to find the child asleep and "drenched in sweat" in the back seat of the Mazda van.

Temperatures had soared to over 30 degrees Celsius, and the windows of the van had been left cracked only an inch.
