TORONTO - Toronto Police Chief Bill Blair is threatening legal action against Coun. Doug Ford.
Blair made the statement through a police spokesman shortly after Ford questioned why news that Mayor Rob Ford was about to be served with a subpoena in Alexander “Sandro” Lisi’s extortion trial had become public. Ford went on to insist the leak was “payback.”
In response to Ford’s comments, Blair issued a blunt statement.
“Doug Ford is lying and I’m prepared to take legal action,” Blair said in the statement provided by police spokesman Mark Pugash.
When contacted about Blair’s statement, Ford stuck to his comments.
“It’s my opinion,” Ford told the Sun. “I’m entitled to my opinion.”
Mayor Ford refused to speak about the war of words between his brother and the city’s top cop.
Earlier in the day, Doug Ford was asked to comment on the looming subpoena and said it was “pretty disappointing that the chief and folks like that would release this to the media.
“You wonder why ... changes need to be happening at the level of the police, that’s the reason,” Ford told the Toronto Sun at City Hall on Friday.
