OTTAWA - A highway traffic barrier worker tells police he has no idea why two guys jumped out of an orange car and started beating him with a baseball bat Tuesday night.

The 24-year-old man, who works for signalling company MTS, was on Hwy. 50 West near St-Louis St. around 10 p.m. when three men in an orange Pontiac Wave rolled up. Two of the passengers jumped out of the four-door car and starting hitting the man with a baseball bat.

Gatineau police Const. Pierre Lanthier said the attack only lasted about a minute and appears to have been somewhat thwarted by witnesses who started shouting at the attackers to leave the man alone.

The attackers fled, heading north on St-Louis St.

Cops have descriptions of the attackers — all white men. The driver was fat and appeared to be in his 20s. The two guys with the baseball bat were also in their 20s, between 5-foot-9 and 5-foot-11 and weighing about 160 lb.
