A California man was convicted Thursday for the murder of a Canadian nurse 35 years ago.

Lynne Knight, born in Camrose, Alta., and raised in Stratford, Ont., was found brutally slain in her apartment in Torrance, Calif., on Aug. 29, 1979.

Her killer had strangled her with wire and stabbed her more than 15 times.

Police for many years suspected her ex-boyfriend, Douglas Gordon Bradford, was responsible, but they didn't have enough evidence and the case went cold until 2009, when investigators uncovered new clues and arrested Bradford in May of that year.

Knight's father, Clair, told QMI Agency at the time he found it strange his daughter's suitor never sent condolences after her death.

Bradford, 62, faces 26 years to life in prison when he is sentenced on Oct. 10.
