WINNIPEG — A fellow prisoner is charged with first-degree murder in the death of child-killer Duane Taylor, found dead in his Manitoba prison cell Saturday night.

RCMP has charged Cordell Charles, 25, at Stony Mountain Institution.

Taylor had been been in prison since Sept. 8, 1982, for the first-degree murder of two-year-old April Marie Morrison, of Kingston, Ont.

Taylor raped and murdered Morrison just 11 days after he was released from prison, where he was serving time for attempting to rape a four-year-old girl.

Taylor admitted to raping Morrison, punching her in the throat and sitting on top of her as she lay in face down on a chair until she died.

Charles was scheduled to make his first appearance on the murder charge in a Winnipeg courtroom on Tuesday.
