CALGARY -- A man has been detained after an RCMP cruiser was stolen during an impaired-driving investigation on the weekend.

Police had stopped a car on a road near Cochrane, just northwest of Calgary, on Saturday following complaints of a possible drunk driver.

After catching up with the suspect vehicle, police put the driver in the back of the cruiser and were dealing with passengers when their police car suddenly sped away.

Police said there were no guns in the cruiser at the time.

The car is equipped with a tracking device; however, police were unable to find it.

Lorenzo Anthony Bearspaw, 25, was arrested in Calgary on Tuesday. RCMP are now working to recover the stolen crusier.
