CALGARY - The inside of an RCMP cruiser was trashed after it was used as a getaway car by an alleged impaired driver.

On Saturday, Cochrane, Alta., RCMP were called to the Stoney First Nation, 50 km west of Calgary, for a suspected impaired driver.

They arrested a man for alleged impaired driving and put him in the back of the police car.

The two officers on scene were speaking with some people who had gathered nearby when they noticed the cruiser being driven off, Cpl. Mel Calahasen said.

"The individual (who had been) in the back was leaving the scene in the police vehicle," Calahasen said.

Initially, police tracked the cruiser’s course using a GPS in the car, but then the signal vanished, he added.

The vehicle did not have any weapons in it at the time.

After issuing a warrant, RCMP received a tip that the suspect was in Calgary on Monday, and the man was arrested.
