Quebec's so-called "King of Pot" will spend the next 27 years in a U.S. prison.

Despite a letter of support from UFC champion Georges St-Pierre, Jimmy Cournoyer was slapped with the lengthy sentence Wednesday in New York.

The Laval, Que., dealer sold at least 109 tonnes of marijuana on the U.S. east coast between 1998 and 2012, backed by the Rizzuto Mafia family in Montreal and the Bonanno clan in New York, court heard.

Prosecutor Steven Tiscione said Cournoyer, who other criminals nicknamed "Cosmo" and "Superman," was also connected with the Hells Angel and the Sinaloa Mexican cartel.
