WINNIPEG — The father and stepmother of three young girls have been arrested in Manitoba after allegations the girls were locked in their rooms, rarely fed and sexually abused.

Two of the girls are under 10 years old, and another is much younger, say RCMP.

All three are in foster care after being removed from their Parkland, Man., home on Aug. 7.

Investigators believe the children were locked in their rooms for most of the time, lived in horrific conditions,

and the two older girls were forced to perform sexual acts.

"It's always a concern when people are hurt, but even more so when they are children who are young and vulnerable," RCMP spokeswoman Tara Seel said Tuesday. "It was quite shocking."

The custodial parents face charges of sexual assault, making child pornography, assault with a weapon, failure to provide the necessities of life, forcible confinement, corrupting morals, sexual exploitation of a young person, sexual interference, assault and invitation to sexual touching.
