A one-year-old boy being touted as "the luckiest baby in the world" after surviving an eight-storey plunge in Mississauga today.

The boy's mother was holding the baby while standing on her balcony at an apartment complex at 1300 Mississauga Valley Blvd. just before noon, according to Peel Regional Police.

The baby wiggled out of his mom's arms and fell over the railing landing on bushes eight floors below, police said.

The boy is "the luckiest baby in the world" for surviving the plunge, Const. J.P. Valade said.

The child suffered a broken nose, cuts and bruises and was taken to hospital for treatment.
