Couple surpasses air hockey world record

TIMMINS — After 24 hours, couple Jesse Fontaine and Breanna Broughten realized a dream.

The duo stood at either end of an air hockey table after their successful attempt to break the Guinness World Record for longest air hockey game.

The original record was set at 20 hours.

By 8 a.m. on Friday they achieved their goal of 24 hours of continuous play.

But the puck didn’t stop there and neither did Fontaine or Broughten.

“We are definitely going to keep going,” Fontaine said during a break, permitted in the rules. “I don’t know if 48 hours is going to happen, but we’re shooting for 36 hours right now.”

Working through exhaustion and lapses in motivation, the endurance game was easier than anticipated, but not without struggle.

“Watching the puck makes you motion sick, the whole thing has been very mind numbing. I am just exhausted at this point,” he said. “I feel like I’ve accomplished something very great.”

Hand in hand with the record attempt, Fontaine and Broughten hosted a fundraiser, hoping to raise $10,000 for one of World Vision’s drop in centres in Pir Wadhai, Pakistan.
