LEAMINGTON, ONT. - It appears that Alice the Boa Constrictor survived Leamington’s Sunset Club fire after all.
The eight-foot-long reptile’s owner, Justin Tuffin, was one of two men who went door to door inside the burning building, alerting other tenants to the blaze.
In his haste, he failed to get his pet out of his room before vacating.
According to Leamington Fire Chief Chuck Parsons, Tuffin thought that - maybe - Alice had scraped through, since his room wasn’t destroyed as badly as the others.
After some persistence, he persuaded fire officials to take a look and there was she was, curled up on Tuffin’s bed.
“The snake hadn’t eaten for over a week, but appeared to be okay,” Parsons said.
Alice was found Friday morning, a full nine days after the fire.
