Dramatic rescue from fiery car crash caught on video

OTTAWA — Dramatic video has surfaced of the heroic rescue of a 12-year-old boy from a burning car on the Queensway Friday night.
Volunteer firefighter Dan Regnier was driving home to his fiancee in Long Sault when he leapt into action to save a father and his children trapped in their car after a collision on Hwy. 417 Friday night.
At the same time, Fez Younis was heading home after an evening downtown.
Younis saw the crash from the other lanes of the highway and pulled over. Unable to get across and feeling unable to help, he decided to capture the event on his iPhone.
"I got on at the Lees exit and all I see is — boom — a loud crash and this Civic spinning around," Younis said.
He said other people pulled over and helped yank the car door open.
"They tore it apart," he said. "It was crazy."
Younis said the whole rescue effort lasted about 5 minutes.
"I saw them pull the kid out," he said. "They ran the kid as far away from the car as possible. All I could hear was screaming."
Thanks to the heroic efforts of Regnier and the passersby, nobody was injured.
