The mystery benefactor who put smiles on servers' faces by leaving exorbitant tips in their pockets has been identified.
Ex-PayPal vice-president Jack Selby is the one who, since September, has been leaving tips ranging from $500 to $10,000, according to the website Valleywag.
It has all been documented on the Instagram account TipsForJesus.
The 18 photos posted on the account show happy servers holding up receipts, with gratuities totalling more than $50,000 on bills from bars and restaurants in L.A., Chicago and Ann Arbor, Mich.
The person behind TipsForJesus has offered no explanation beyond the tagline: "Doing the Lord's work, one tip at a time."
But as Valleywag points out, an article about the anonymous do-gooder was posted on a Facebook page that appears to belong to Selby and some comments below it suggest Selby is responsible.
"And the mystery tipper strikes again..." Rob Hughes wrote.
