Austin Dennison took his prom date to her favourite restaurant, made sure the DJ played a song with her name in it and even bought her a string of pearls to go with her corsage.
But there was something different about the date on the arm of the Rockford, Ohio, boy scout, volunteer firefighter, football player — it was his 89-year-old great-grandmother.
Delores Dennison never had a prom of her own, so Austin asked if she would be his date, the Times Bulletin reported.
"'I'm not that good on my feet,' I told him. Finally I said that if I was able to go at that time, I would," Delores said.
Austin took Delores to Bob Evans for dinner and at prom the Frank Sinatra song I Love the Kisses of Delores was played.
Austin had Delores home around 9 p.m.
"She means so much to us. I would do it all over again in a heartbeat," Austin said.
