Reddit users helped a grieving father by removing the tubes from a photo of his infant daughter who spent her short life in hospital.

The father, whose username is steffel07, posted the request a few days ago.

USA Today identified the man as Nathan Steffel, of Ohio, whose six-week-old daughter Sophia died from a liver tumour.

"My daughter recently passed away after a long battle in the children's hospital. Since she was in the hospital her whole life we never were able to get a photo without all her tubes. Can someone remove the tubes from this photo?"

His request garnered thousands of comments, and numerous digitally altered versions of the photo, as well as drawings.

The father was quick to thank all of those answering his request.

"This is really amazing. Everyone, you have made my day. All I wanted was a nice picture. What I received was a lot of love and support from a bunch of strangers."
