More than 200 dogs and puppies rescued from a puppy mill in Estrie, Que., in May are ready to be adopted, a rescue group says.

The dogs were being held in an emergency shelter after they were seized, Humane Society International's Canadian branch says.

The dogs were neglected and had serious health and behavioural issues, Ewa Demianowicz of the organization said.

"It makes me so happy to see them leaving our emergency shelter to find forever homes with loving families. We could not be prouder of their tremendous resilience and capacity to heal while in our care," Demianowicz said in a release.

The group said this was one of the largest dog rescues in Quebec history. Breeds seized included shih tzus, pomeranians and cocker spaniels. Some of the dogs were pregnant when they were seized.

The dogs were seized after an inspection by the Society for the Protection of Animals.
