Ronald Latreille is glad he listened to his family. The 71-year-old Kemptville man said he has been buying 6/49 tickets since the lottery started, but gave it up for a few weeks back because he was tired of not winning.
"They told me: 'Just one more time,' " Latreille said yesterday in a telephone interview from Toronto, where he collected the $4.8-million prize that he and three family members won in last week's draw.
Latreille, his wife Murielle, his daughter Lise Grenon and his granddaughter Chantal Turtle bought one of two winning tickets in last week's $9.6-million draw.
Ontario Lottery Corporation officials were still searching for the other winner yesterday.
Latreille, who retired 11 years ago from his job as a shipping and receiving supervisor at the Honeywell plant in Ottawa, plans to spend some of his share paying down his mortgage and van and "other little bills."
Latreille also plans to invest a significant share of his winnings, but he won't shy away from spending some of it on himself.
"I'm 71 years old. I'll have fun with it," he said. "It was a long time coming, but it came."
