They went from cold cuts to cold hard cash.
Six workers at a Scarborough deli won the Nov. 6 Lotto 6/49 jackpot worth $18,168,976.
Ursula Heinemann, 59, usually buys the group's ticket during her afternoon coffee break but Saturday morning she "just had a feeling," so she bought the ticket in the morning.
The winning ticket was purchased at Markham Convenience in Scarborough.
The other winners of the draw are: Jana Striezova, 29, Anna Schank, 61; and Agnieszka Kozlowska, 35, all from Scarborough; Ernest Wendling, 54, of Oshawa; and Mary Mosolanczki, 58, of Courtice.
Ursula has been in charge of buying and checking the ticket for the past year-and-a-half since the group has been playing the lottery. She said no one believed her when she told them they had won. What followed was further shock and disbelief as the group figured out that each person's share of the jackpot would be a whopping $3,028,162.
Ursula has a lot to celebrate, her 60th birthday is tomorrow and later this month is her 40th wedding anniversary. She plans to travel to Yellowknife to visit her daughter and see the northern lights.
All six winners plan to continue working at the deli.
