Tony and Toni Marrocco won two jackpots on the weekend, a $13,000 slots win at Casino Rama and a $18.5-million win with Lotto 6/49.
The Caledon couple accepted the big cheque yesterday at lottery headquarters on Dundas St. W. They split the $37-million jackpot prize with a winning ticket in Quebec. Toni, 56, checked her numbers Sunday night, then went on the Internet to double check and realized all six matched the jackpot winner.
"It's something you don't expect to happen to you," she said.
Husband Tony, 61, was sleeping on the couch when his wife and daughter started yelling and screaming, "She got the six numbers."
"My daughter was doing most of the shouting," Tony said.
"It's hard to believe. I thought they were pulling my leg."
The jackpot win wasn't the only stroke of luck the couple had on the weekend -- Toni won $13,000 at Casino Rama in Orillia the night before and vowed she would win the big lottery jackpot. So she took $50 from her casino cash and bought a ticket for Lotto 6/49 and a Super 7.
"(Little did I know) I'd already bought the winning ticket Friday," Toni said.
The winner was a quick-pick ticket she bought at the Queensgate Shoppers Drug Mart in Bolton while grabbing a birthday card for her new daughter-in-law. The couple are planning on taking it easy spending their millions.
They hope to use some of the money to help their three sons, daughter and four grandchildren.
A family dinner at the couple's cash crop farm in Caledon was planned for last night. The couple used to operate the farm but now rent it to a neighbour while running their own construction company.
"I had to make a living and farming doesn't make it," Tony said.
They aren't planning to quit the company just yet and they don't plan to move.
"We like it fine where we are," he said, adding big trips to far away places were also out. "We don't like flying."
After Christmas, they are planning to celebrate another milestone in December -- their 25th wedding anniversary.
"It's a nice anniversary gift," Toni said smiling.
Tony said he never thought they'd be millionaires 25 years later. "I was already a millionaire in spirit," he said looking at his wife.
