COBOURG -- A Cobourg man plunged from the thrill of victory to the agony of defeat when he found out his winning lottery ticket was stolen from his car.

Jamie Eisan knew he'd won about $400 in ProLine after watching the Colorado Avalanche beat the Detroit Red Wings in a shoot-out by a score of 4-3.

But the winning ticket and $475 were in his wallet, which was stolen from his car on Saturday night.

'FORGOT'

"I thought I locked it, but I guess I just forgot to do it," he said.

When he woke up Sunday, he planned to turn the signed ticket into cash. But when he walked out of his Burnham St. home and found the door to his car was open, he knew his luck had run out.

After phoning Cobourg Police, he searched a field across from his home with his common law wife, Teresa Weagant.

'SICKENING'

Just three metres from the sidewalk, the couple located somebody else's identification scattered in the field. Police reported the other person's identification was stolen on a previous occasion.

A short distance away, Eisan found his wallet and credit cards, minus the cash and ticket.

"It's sickening. These stupid kids stealing our stuff," he said. "This town is getting worse and worse."

Police advised people to lock their vehicles.
