VANCOUVER, B.C. -- There’s one less trucker and one more multi-millionaire in the Lower Mainland.

Karl Hoolsema, 58, travelled to Richmond from his home in Aldergrove yesterday to collect $6,689,401 in winnings from the Lotto 6/49 draw on Dec. 19.

The surprisingly cool customer said the cashier who checked his ticket was more excited than he was when he confirmed his jackpot prize.

“When she fed it through she said, ‘I think you’ve won $6,000,” Hoolsema recalled. “I said, ‘No lady that’s $6 million.’ She just about hit the floor and everybody else was dancing and I’m just standing there playing it calm.”

Hoolsema said he’s already quit his job as a truck driver for Langley School District and is planning to purchase a new home and take a vacation in the coming days.

He’s also given away 20 per cent of his winning to family and friends.

As for the $40 million LOTTO MAX draw on Friday Hoolsema said he already has a ticket.
