EDMONTON — Lottery ticket scanners did a brisk business Saturday after Edmontonians learned a Lotto Max ticket worth nearly $42 million was bought in the city.
“I am hoping it is one of my customers and they will come in and give me a tip,” said Fran Racine, owner of Francine’s Lottery.
Racine said her store is always busy on the weekend, but Saturday has been slightly busier with people hoping to cash in a winning ticket.
Numbers for the $41.7 million draw were announced Friday night, with a lone ticket matching all seven digits.
The Western Canada Lottery Corp. said the Lotto Max ticket was bought in Edmonton, but did not specify where.
The winner has yet to be publicly identified.
This was the second time within about a month that a multimillion-dollar ticket has been snapped up in Edmonton.
Joanne Tsetta bought a 6-49 ticket worth $20.6 million March 20 in the Capilano mall.
Claiming the largest pot won by a single Albertan, Tsetta said she wouldn’t let becoming a millionaire change her life.
Tsetta’s lucky ticket was picked up in the Albert’s lounge in the Capilano Mall.
Lisa Botha, who manages the lounge and family restaurant, said she hoped the latest winning ticket was bought there too.
“That would be really cool,” Botha said. “Two back-to-back would be lucky.”
The lotto helped another batch of Edmontonians become millionaires last May, when a group of 13 ATB workers spit a $49.9 million 6-49 jackpot.
The winning numbers for Friday’s Lotto Max draw were 8, 11, 16, 21, 24, 28 and 41.
The bonus was 37.
